- W276322898 abstract "The mail questionnaire, one of the most frequently used data collection techniques in library research, is also one of the most maligned data collection techniques in library research as well. Library administrators especially, glumly note the steady stream of questionnaires, some well done, many technically poor, that pour out of the mail onto their desks, making unreasonable demands on their, and their staffs', professional time. One overriding advantage of the mail questionnaire compared to other data collection techniques is its ability to collect great amounts of pertinent data from geographically spread individuals with great economy. And for this reason we must expect questionnaires to continue to be used heavily in librarianship. Counteracting the utility of the questionnaire, however, is the low response rate it may elicit, and the consequendy questionable validity of the data: the greatest drawback in the mailed questionnaire technique is the amount of nonresponse.1 Because questionnaires are the only reasonable data collection alternative" @default.
