- W2764678345 abstract "Pharmacokinetic analysis and simulation are tailor- made for application of modern computer technology. There is already a considerable volume of literature listing programmes and describing software appli- cations (see, for example, Refs 1-5). Generally speaking, published research has involved use of: (1) large scale main-frame programmes such as NONLIN, NLIN and SPICE2; (2) programmes written for small computers by individual investigators; and (3) programmes for pocket calculators. To our knowledge, there are no reports of pharmacokinetic applications of the commercially available 'spread sheet' packages devised in recent years for small computers. We have found that these packages have considerable potential for pharmacokinetic simulation exercises, and that simulations can be performed with them by persons with virtually no knowledge of programming. Spread sheet programmes are mostly devised with solution of business/management forecasting prob- lems in mind. They typically provide a 'work sheet' consisting of a very large number of 'cells', each with a unique 'address'. They have the capacity to receive equations, by means of which data from a selection of the cells can be combined to produce solutions. These solutions can be inserted in otherwise blank cells. These programmes can also follow instructions to display tabulated data, or to plot a graph representing the data on the computer screen, or to print hard copy of the work sheet and/or graph. The best known of these programmes is Lotus 1-2-3, which combines all three functions" @default.
