• W2765083829 abstract "Gerontology is a new discipline throughout the world. Its educational programs have been recently designed and an analysis of the issues they aboard seems pertinent to understand which type of professionals are being formed. In this work, a general panorama of Master's degrees in Gerontology and Geriatrics in Mexico is presented. The Master's Degree (MD) programs in Mexico are especially divided in four: Gerontology, Social Gerontology (SG), Specialty of Gerontology and the medical Specialty in Geriatrics. A research based on internet results rendered data that was further classified according to the issues; the frequency of each of the courses was obtained. Educative offers of SG and Gerontology are aimed at the public graduated from Bachelor, so they do not exclusively admit Gerontologists, but everyone interested on the issue of Old aged people. The SG's MD programs educate giving a general panorama of gerontology, social and administrative subjects and in less proportion on aspects of biological, psychological and another issues as legislation and pedagogy. Courses about Research Methodology are scarce. Two of the Master's Degree Programs offer their classes exclusively on weekends, one of SG and the other of Gerontology. In the other hand, MD Programs, one of them at the Universidad of Guadalajara, with regular courses during the week, possesses a biological approach and is guided by research (Figure 1). The Gerontology program is plural because it gives the students a gerontological, social and psychological formation. Legal aspects, tanatology, sexual and physiotherapy have a low frequency in MD's Programs of Gerontology and SG. The Specialty in Gerontology is offered to nurses, so, along with the Medical Specialities, require a particular and biological preparation. Medical specialties include varied issues, among them, biological, social, psychological and with lower frequencies from those philosphical, legal, about research or antropometrics (Table 2)." @default.
