- W2765193213 abstract "The field of ethnotaxonomy seeks to understand how people identify, classify, and name living organisms to better understand the basic principles of categorizing and nomenclature and allow us to identify the linguistic, semantic, and taxonomic criteria utilized in those processes. The acquisition of a vocabulary (lexicon) would be the first step in gathering information concerning the biology and ecology of diverse groups of plants and animals. This chapter aimed to carry out an ethnotaxonomic review, based on the Berlinian classification model. This information demonstrates that folk taxonomy is used to analyze groups of organisms based on their similarities as well as individual or variable characteristics and represents a way of diffusing concepts related to the taxonomy folk. The Berlinian model of ethnobiological classification is its usefulness for understanding the internal structures of the hierarchical categories, which avoids ethnobiological classification becoming a simple cataloging of “ethnospecies” associated with their scientific equivalents—making it possible to interpret them within a logical structural arrangement." @default.
