• W2766308650 abstract "An earlier diagnosis of cognitive disorders helps determine treatment and general management options. 18-FDG PET scan is a recognized tool to help diagnose cognitive disorders. Neuropsychological tests are also known to improve the specificity of the diagnosis. Nonetheless, the literature is scarce regarding the added value of these specific investigations in tertiary-care geriatric centers. Two studies (1,2) have investigated the usefulness of PET scan in memory clinics. These studies have demonstrated that PET scan can modulate the final diagnosis as well as the management of cognitive disorders in cases of atypical dementia. Nonetheless, the study subjects were often younger than 65. Moreover, the added value of neuropsychological assessment in memory clinics has been poorly studied. To our knowledge, only one such study (3) was published, who has demonstrated that neuropsychological evaluation had an added value only in those not already diagnosed with dementia. Despite the fact than one study (4) has addressed the concomitant use of PET scan and neuropsychology, this study had the goal to predict the progression of MCI to dementia, and did not evaluate the added value to differential diagnosis. We decided to assess the contribution of functional imaging and neuropsychology to determine how they assist specialists diagnose specific cognitive disorders or if they change management plan. This is a retrospective study. We will review charts of patients aged 65 and older investigated in a tertiary care memory clinic within a 1-year frame. Will be available during the Spring of 2017. Our hypothesis is that functional imaging and neuropsychology are both helpful for physicians in tertiary-care memory clinics. We believe that cerebral FDG-PET scan is mainly useful in atypical cognitive disorders, and that neuropsychological assessment can help both for MCI and atypical cognitive disorders.
