- W2766462639 abstract "One of the questions which always come up in any discussion of Girard’s thought, especially among believers in one or other variant of Christianity, is that concerning the appropriateness of the use of the term “sacrifice” to describe Christ’s death. In a logical further step, when the discussion shifts to Christian worship, the question arises of how such an “anti-sacrificial” understanding of Christ’s death as that espoused by Girard could be compatible with (for example) the traditional Catholic teaching that the Mass is indeed a sacrifice. Here I will illustrate the organic coherence of both the very “anti-sacrificial” understanding of Christ’s death and the traditional understanding of the Eucharist as a sacrifice, once the dynamic at work in both is perceived." @default.
