- W2766707535 abstract "Intraband electronic transitions are the fundamental quantum effect underpinning Drude conductivity in solid state materials. In electromagnetic or photonic structures, periodic space-time variation in the permitivity of the structure can be used to generate analogous transitions. In non-dispersive or weakly dispersive systems, this effect generates many undesirable harmonics. This paper introduces the idea of applying dispersion engineering to effectively control the process of intraband photonic transition. It is shown that this effect leads to electromagnetic wave amplification in a properly engineered dispersive system. Such structures may find applications in low-noise amplifier-mixers and magnetless nonreciprocal systems." @default.
