In 2030, the number of persons aged 65 years and older is projected to be twice as high as it was in 2000, growing from 35 million to 74 million and representing nearly 21% of the U.S. population (1). Regardless of the type of activity assessed, the prevalence of disability increases with advancing age and is consistently higher among women than men.
