- W2769810147 abstract "Microcontact printing is form of soft lithographyutilizing an elastomeric stamp with a molded relief pattern toprint features on substrates through ink transfer at micron andnanometer scales. This is a low-cost technique when compared withother printing and patterning processes. Traditional microcontactprinting using flat stamps and planar, rigid substrates, whichlimit production output, manufacturing scale, and capitalefficiency. However, a precise, scalable, roll-to-roll processcould lower production costs, increase output, and enable thecreation new technologies. Specifically, flexible displays,photovoltaic systems and accessories, and other large areaelectronics could be fabricated using a continuous roll-to-rollmicrocontact printing process. This work builds on existingresearch in fabricating seamless cylindrical PDMS stamps (tools)for microcontact printing using laser direct-write lithography formicro-patterning. Specifically, the scale-up requirement formicrocontact printing to have arbitrarily patterned tools withdiverse feature sets was addressed. The manufacturing processwindow of AZ 9260 photoresist was examined through numericalsimulation and experimentation to determine an input set for themost robust performance and ideal tool feature geometry. Arasterscan protocol was developed to arbitrarily pattern thephotoresist in a cylindrical setting. Additionally, non-destructivemetrology equipment for analyzing the patterned photoresist andtool contact region were developed. Tools with multiple featurepatterns were fabricated, and the evolution of critical featuredimensions were measured from simulation, to the photoresist mold,to the PDMS stamp, to the stamp in contact, and finally to theprinted features. Manufacturing tools with diverse patterns wasdemonstrated, and the contribution of tool fabrication steps toultimate print geometries was studied. The presented findingsfurther the development of a scaled-up microcontact printingprocess in a continuous roll-to-roll setup." @default.
