- W2769919951 abstract "The water-gas shift reaction (WGSR) is an important element in steam reforming. The mechanism of this reaction has been well studied and provides the answer to the question of why substrates such as nitroaromatics, olefins, or other unsaturated organic compounds can be hydrogenated employing carbon monoxide in aqueous environments. The WGSR is an undesired side reaction, observed in bulk scale transformations. For example in the hydrocarboxylation of ethene to propionic acid using CO and H2O, minor hydrogenation and hydroformylation products can be observed due to in situ generated hydrogen. The WGSR is responsible for unwanted side products in the well-known Monsanto-process, where the mentioned [Rh(CO)2I2] is utilized as catalyst. Regardless of whether it is conducted homogeneously or heterogeneously, the WGSR is usually promoted by transition metal catalysts. Some reports, however, prove that main group element catalysts also show considerable activity in the reaction of water with carbon monoxide." @default.
