In this chapter, recent research in the development of surface modification techniques from self-assembled monolayers via the electrochemically induced reactions are reviewed, specifically electrochemically induced surface modifications by means of Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (e-click), surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization, and the possible combination of the two methods. It presents a number of attractive features such as the improved efficiency for surface modification and the temporally and spatially control of the reaction process. Structured surfaces such as patterns and gradients are included, surface functionalities, future challenges, and perspectives for surface modifications are discussed." @default.
