- W2772202213 abstract "With the development of power industry, the transmission line construction is now facing a more and more serious problem with the resource scarcity and high cost of transmission right-of-way. Replacing conventional steel cross-arm with a novelly composite one will lead to an obvious reduction in the width of right-of-way. Based on the technical basis of the composite insulator, a new-type transmission tower with composite cross-arms was developed. A 3-D model of the full tower was established by finite element method to optimize the insulation structure. In order to control the electric-field distribution, the structure parameters including pipe diameter, ring diameter and covering depth were adjusted to obtain an optimal design scheme for the grading ring. The computed results show that the electric-field and potential distributions on the surface of post insulators and tension insulators can be improved effectively, and the maximum electric-field magnitudes on the surface of end fitting and SR sheath can be reduced obviously. The results demonstrate that the developed new-type transmission tower with composite cross-arms can fully meet the technical requirements of the practical project application." @default.
