- W2772579892 abstract "In this chapter, we have summarized the design and applications of smart surfaces modified with phenylboronic acid-involved polymer brushes. The responsiveness of this kind of smart surface basically depends on the molecular recognition between phenylboronic acid (PBA) and diols-containing compounds under different pH conditions and presence/absence of free carbohydrates, which endows the PBA-modified surfaces with pH responsiveness, or sugar responsiveness, or pH/sugar dual responsiveness. By using this unique property, researchers have applied smart surfaces modified with PBA-containing polymer brushes to a wide range of applications including molecular-scaled glucose sensor, nanoscaled enrichment of glycopeptide and detection of protein, and microscaled tunable adhesion of bacteria and cells. We believe that smart surfaces modified with PBA-containing polymer brushes will exhibit wider applications in material science and biotechnology by improving the specificity between PBA and diols-containing compounds." @default.
