- W2772788675 abstract "Some cell types differentiate when cultured in vitro and/or under specific in vitro conditions, and some organs can be cultured in vitro. Different types of Drosophila neural cells, e.g., can be cultured in specific media conditions and culture conditions presented in this chapter. In a mixed population of cells, this can include the formation of structures with attributes of neuromuscular junctions that join neural cells with myotubes. Neural cells can be investigated in vitro using a number of approaches, including electrophysiology and pharmacology. Culture of mutant cell types affecting neural function, such as culture of cells from dunce mutant flies, allows for cellular analysis of neuronal defects associated with the mutation. Although difficult due to size and other considerations, specific organs such as larval imaginal discs can also be cultured in vitro and will differentiate. A number of classical examples, in particular of culture of the eye-antennal disc, are presented. Efforts to establish continuous cultures from imaginal discs are also discussed." @default.
