- W2772815048 abstract "Abstract Chromatin regulates gene expression by controlling the access of transcription factors, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR), to their binding sites within genomic DNA. The dynamic competition between nucleosomes and transcription factors for chromatin sites is influenced by a large set of enzymes that either covalently modify histone proteins or reposition nucleosomes. Vitamin D has, via the metabolite 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and the VDR, not only a direct effect on the transcriptome of a tissue or cell type but also modulates the epigenomes. This chapter provides a genome-wide perspective on the interaction of vitamin D and its receptor with (1) the activity status of chromatin expressed by accessibility for genomic DNA and changes of histone marks, (2) chromatin components, such as the pioneer factor PU.1 and the chromatin organizer CTCF, and (3) the resulting impact on the human epigenome in vitro and in vivo." @default.
