- W2774089164 abstract "From surveying of asparagus diseases in central part of Thailand for two years, stem blight (Phomopsis blight), branchlet and stem blight (Cerospora blight), anthracnose, soft rot, wet rot, spear rot, cracked stem and white tip were found in cultivated areas, especially at Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Petchburi and Kanchanaburi province. There are two major diseases, stem blight and branchlet and stem blight, were extremely severes and widely spread in rainy season and cool season, respectively. Stem blight of asparagus caused by Phomopsis asparagi (Sacc.) Bubak commonly occurred in rainy season till mid of cool season (June-December). Early stage of disease symptoms were evident on stalk close to the soil line, from which progressive infection had spread up to the other parts of plant. Typical lesion for assay is brown and ellipsoid-shape with numerous black sign of pycnidia. Lately, the infected plant showed yellowing, blight and premature death of the entire stalks. Branchlet and stem blight (Cercospora asparagi) was found on infected asparagus from late of rainy season to cool season (September-March). The disease was investigated by brown to dark brown lesion with ellipsoid shape like Phomopsis blight, but no sign of pycnidium. We can distinguish between those two diseases in early stage of symptom. The lesions of Cercospora blight are usually smaller but much more in number than those of phomopsis blight. For late symptom, it looks similar. The efficacy of fungicides in inhibiting growth of P. asparagi on PDA was evaluated. Benomyl and carbendazim were highly inhibitory to mycelial growth with ED50 values less than 1 ppm followed by captafol, mancozeb and captan in decreasing order. Comparison of the efficiency of fungicide treatments and thinning practice revealed that chemical treatment, chemical with thinning and thinning were non significantly differences for controlling Phomopsis blight disease of asparagus in field test." @default.
