- W2775117890 abstract "In many application areas it is often very important to derive a reduced-order model of a given system. Here, the problem is considered for the case of continuous-time, linear, time-invariant, single-input, single-output, dynamical systems. A classification of model reduction methods is suggested, and advantages and drawbacks of the main procedures are discussed. In particular, the Pade technique is considered and compared with other reduction methods presented in current literature or suggested by the proposed general classification. The dominant poles re tent ion characteristics of Pade models are investigated, and the cases when the Pade technique fails to produce a model of the chosen order, or leads to a non-minimal or to an ill-conditioned approximant are analysed and related to the possibility of unstable Pade models of stable systems. Procedures that improve some approximation aspects and avoid the mentioned disadvantages are suggested." @default.
