- W2775762007 abstract "ABSTRACT THE purpose of this research was to study the effects of magnetic fluid in removing contaminants from crop seeds. The effects of magnetic fluid and magnetic flux density of the magnetic separator on seed separations and germination of treated seeds were studied. A bentgrass-soil particle mixture was used in these trials. There were 12 treatments [3 fluid dilutions (15:1, 10:1, and 5:1 water to fluid ratio by volume) x 4 magnetic flux densities (0.08, 0.28, 0.44, and 0.63 tesla)]. Determination of soil particles remaining in the cleaned fraction, and germination tests on a few selected fractions were carried out. Best results were obtained with the 15:1 diluted magnetic fluid at a flux density of 0.63 tesla. This operating condition resulted in minimizing crop seed loss while meeting phytosanitary tolerances for soil particles of 0.03 percent by weight, required for bentgrass seed being exported." @default.
