- W2776760314 abstract "Background: If asthma is not controlled by ICS, it is necessary to increase the dose or use combined medicine. Aim: To compare the effectiveness of different variants for the basic therapy in moderate asthma in children. Materials and methods: We selected 95 patients 6-18 years old (13,8±3,7years) with partly controlled moderate asthma with clinical signs of obstruction confirmed by spirometry. Firstly, all the children received ICS/LABA (budesonide/formoterol) 80/4.5 or 160/4.5μg twice a day for 12 weeks. After the children were randomized into 3 groups: group I - budesonide/formoterol in a fixed dose twice a day; group II - budesonide/formoterol once a day and in exacerbation of asthma patient increased budesonide/formoterol to 4 inhalations/day for 7-14 days (intermittent therapy). Group III - ICS (100-200μg budesonide/day). Patients of all groups may inhale SABA as needed. We estimated asthma symptoms, SABA as needed and FEV1. Results: After 6 months 73.3% of the patients group I remained disease control (the minimum number of asthma symptoms, minimum SABA as needed, FEV1 91.3± 1.42% pred). In the group II 97.5% of the patients remained disease control (the minimum number of asthma symptoms and SABA as needed, FEV1 was 97.1 2.17% of predicted). In the group III 74.3% of the patients remained disease control. The total dose used ICS for 24 weeks: group I - 262.8±8.3μg/day/child, group II - 156.4±5.6μg/day/child, group III - 207.5±3.2 μg /day/child (p Conclusion: Using intermittent maintenance therapy of budesonide/formoterol allows to maintain control of asthma with lower doses of inhaled corticosteroids, to increase compliance, to reduce the total number of doses of ICS." @default.
