- W2777261918 abstract "Perfluorosulfonic acids (PFSA) are generally considered by the scientific community superior to other polymeric ionomers due to their high chemical resistance and high proton conductivity. In the mid-1980s, Ballard Power Systems showed significant improvements in fuel cell (FC) performance using ionomer membranes obtained from Dow Chemical. Published data on Aquivion membranes, including FC performance, mechanical characteristics, and hydration properties, are in most cases comparable with the published data for the Dow ionomer. In agreement with short-side-chain (SSC) ionomers, Aquivion ionomers present a glass transition around 130-165 °C. The higher durability of stabilized Aquivion membranes has been shown in single-cell open circuit voltage (OCV) tests and also in Fenton tests. Long-term Fenton tests proved that the “unzipping reaction” involves the bulk of the polymer and evolves in line with the hypothesis that the unzipping reaction is the main operative degadation mechanism." @default.
