- W2778869526 abstract "Introduction: Severe asthma management in elderly patients may be difficult because of increased comorbid conditions, polypharmacy, and poor adherence. Aim: In this study we want to evaluate the long-term safety and efficacy of omalizumab in elderly patients with uncontrolled allergic asthma. Methods: 128 patients with uncontrolled allergic asthma and treated with omalizumab were included to retrospective cohort study. They were divided into 2 groups according to age as ≥65 years and Results: Age of 21 patients were (16,4%) more than 65 years old.17 patients were female in elderly group and it was no statistically difference from other group(p>0,05).Also duration of asthma of patients was not found different between each group(p>0,05).Rate of continuation for omalizumab treatment for each group was found same(elderly group 95,2% vs other group 94,4%)(p>0,05). There was no statistically difference according to asthma control between each groupc [well controlled(61,95% vs 66,3%), partly controlled(33,3% vs 27,7%), and uncontrolle(4,8% vs 6%)] (p>0.05).Number of emergency room visits and hospitalization due to asthma attack were not found statistically different between each group (p>0,05).According to adverse effect of omalizumab, there was no diference between each group (p>0,05).Advers effects seen in elderly group were local side effects(n=2) and myalgia(n=1). Conclusion: Our study found that omalizumab is a well-tolerated and effective therapy for elderly patients with uncontrolled asthma." @default.
