- W2780821044 abstract "Tobacco seed usage, as a renewable and waste raw material, is not only socially and economically justified, but it also forms a basis of a 'healthy' use of tobacco. The fatty acid composition, physical and chemical properties of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) seed oils obtained and separated from the solvent by different techniques were compared. Oils were obtained by cold pressing, as well as, by classical and ultrasound extraction using n-hexane at 25˚C and 1:10 g/cm3 seeds-to-solvent ratio. Obtained oils were separated from the solvent under reduced pressure or in a two-stage separation procedure, distillation followed by direct water stem distillation. At the end of the two-stage separation procedure oils were separated from water by separational funnel. The fatty acid composition of tobacco seed oils was determined by the GC analysis after the fatty acids had been transformed into methyl esters with sodium methoxide. Physical (density and refraction index at 20˚C) and chemical (iodine, acid and saponification values) properties of tobacco seed oil were analyzed using standard procedures. The insignificant difference in physical and chemical properties of oil obtained by different recovery techniques was shown. All these properties are comparable with properties of other vegetable oils which makes this oil a suitable initial row material for the production of biodiesel fuel. This suggests that tobacco seed oil, as a renewable source of energy, may be an appropriate substitute for diesel fuel. Independently of the extraction technique and separation procedure the fatty acid tobacco seed oil composition was dominated by linoleic, oleic, palmitic and stearic acids (over 95%)." @default.
