- W2783113759 abstract "Using Guattari’s ethico-aesthetic paradigm as a theoretical framework, this chapter argues that mothering is a creative, transversal and micropolitical process situated in everyday life relations. An autobiographical event centered on the encounter of several pieces of bark missing from a beloved maple tree is used to theorize mothering as a feminist aesthetics of existence. To develop this concept, the author connects Félix Guattari’s aesthetic enunciation and its focus on the intense, emergent and expressive aspects of subjective production with contemporary feminist art practice around the feminist maternal. More specifically, the author analyses how artist Lenka Clayton’s work composes specific expressive substances, material arrangements and maternal embodiment to deploy affective fields that resingularize mothering. To further the inquiry into a feminist aesthetics of existence, the author interprets the aforementioned event with the maple tree through a transversal/transductive logic. This logic examines how events unfold through encounters, between bodies, and how in these encounters matter is transubstantiated in new modalities of expression and mutual becomings with the world. The chapter concludes with a call for progressive art educators to develop further inquiry into alternative art education politics and geographies." @default.
