• W2783193969 abstract "Objectives: To study the prevalence and predictive factors of depression among the elderly in Maewang sub-district municipality.Materials and Methods: This was a mixed method research comprising quantitative and qualitative method. The sample group consisted of 285 elders residing in Maewang sub-district municipality. It was derived from systematic random sampling. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with ten elders with depression. The tools used for compiling data included family relationships, social participation and Thai Geriatric Depression Scale (TGDS). The reliability test showed alpha efficiency at 0.83, 0.79 and 0.87 respectively. Descriptive Statistics and binary logistic regression were employed for data analysis.Findings: Forty-one elders revealed to be suffering from depression which means that           the prevalence of depression equals to 14.39%. The average age is 71.67 years and 68.29% of the respondents are female. The predictive factors of depression include inadequate incomes (Adjusted OR =3.71, 95%CI = 1.59– 8.67), chronic diseases (Adjusted OR =3.42, 95%CI = 1.01– 11.57), no caretakers (Adjusted OR =3.98, 95%CI = 1.56– 10.21), poor family relationship (Adjusted OR =47.68, 95%CI =5.44– 417.80) and low social participation (Adjusted OR =4.86, 95%CI = 1.90– 12.42).
