EnglishIn Dante’s Divine Comedy, the souls travel throughout the three canticas along their spiritual path. The souls move and dance differently in accordance with their sins, their expiation in Purgatory, and their ascension to heaven. One does not dance in the same manner in Hell, Purgatory and in Heaven. Agitation of the bodies of the damned is quelled in Purgatory whereas the dance is unfolded in Heaven in the form of circle, polyphony and light. The dances of the Divine Comedy enlighten us on the status of souls but they are also a source of information on the dances of Trecento, and on the moral signification attributed to them." @default.
