- W2783282177 abstract "Neutron and proton based Nuclear Analytical Techniques (NATs) like Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA), Prompt Gamma-ray NAA (PGNAA) and Particle Induced Gamma ray Emission (PIGE) are useful for compositional characterization as well as trace element determination in diverse matrices. Among these techniques, NAA using reactor neutrons has been extensively used in various forensic sample analyses. The forensic samples of interest are gunshot residue (GSR), narcotics, drugs, food, hair, nail, cloth, paints, metals and alloys, soil, glass and ceramic objects. These samples need high precision and accurate techniques for elemental concentration determination preferably by non-destructive analytical methods. These samples can be analyzed non-destructively by neutron and proton based NATs to get both qualitative and quantitative knowledge of elemental concentrations. This article describes a brief review on NAA and Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) applications to forensic samples and recent developments in various NATs in our institute and their applications. The methods include k0-based conventional and internal monostandard NAA (IM-NAA), relative and k0-based PGNAA and in situ current normalized PIGE methods utilizing reactor neutrons and proton beams from particle accelerators, respectively. The main objective of this article is to demonstrate the capabilities of NATs based on developed methods in our laboratory for potential applications in forensic science." @default.
