Se recogieron 275 muestras de plasma germinal que comprendian legumbres (158 muestras), cereales (24), semillas oleaginosas (16), hortalizas (13), hierbas y especias (28), arboles y arbustos frutales (2), pasturas (5) y legumbres forrajeras (29). Al menos el 70% del plasma germinal representaba a variedades locales endemicas, un 18% se recogio en el ambiente silvestre y otro 11% eran cultivares probablemente desarrollados en el siglo XX. Las variedades locales de Phaseolus vulgaris L. y P. coccineus L. representaban mas del 52% del material vegetal recogido. Comparada con informes de misiones previas de recoleccion en la region y en los paises vecinos, la diversidad de especies hallada era mas restringida, y puede que algunas variedades locales endemicas de cereales y hortalizas perennes ya no existan. Las perspectivas de conservacion de esa diversidad en las fincas de la region no son prometedoras, y la preservacion ex situ en bancos de genes puede resultar el modo mas eficaz para conservarlas actualmente. EnglishThe recent status of on-farm genetic resources in the Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Mountains has not been as well documented as for the other countries into which the Carpathians stretch. Continuing socio-economic changes in the Ukraine may put the existing on-farm diversity of crop plants at high risk of extinction. This paper summarizes the germplasm findings made in the Ukrainian Carpathians during a joint Ukrainian/Canadian collecting mission, and describes the status of on-farm diversity in the region as found in September 2005. In total, 275 germplasm samples of various crop groups were collected, including pulses (158 samples), cereals (24), oilseeds (16), vegetables (13), herbs and spices (28), fruit trees or shrubs (2), grasses (5) and forage legumes (29). At least 70% of the collected germplasm represented endemic landraces, 18% were collected from the wild and 11% were probably cultivars developed in the 20th century. Endemic landraces of Phaseolus vulgaris L. and P. coccineus L. comprised more than 52% of the collected plant material. Compared with the reports from earlier collecting missions in the region and in neighbouring countries, the diversity of species found in cultivation was narrow, and endemic landraces of cereals and perennial vegetables may no longer exist in the region. The prospects for on-farm conservation of the diversity in the region are not very promising, and ex situ preservation in genebanks may currently be the most efficient way to preserve the endemic landraces of the region. francaisLe statut des ressources genetiques dans les exploitations situees dans les Carpates ukrainiennes est mal connu. Or, du fait des changements socio-economiques, l’agrobiodiversite y est gravement menacee d’extinction. Cet article resume les observations sur le materiel genetique realisees au cours d’une mission de collecte ukraino-canadienne, et decrit l’etat de la diversite dans les exploitations agricoles de la region observe en septembre 2005. Au total, 275 echantillons de materiel genetique de divers groupes de plantes cultivees ont ete collectes, incluant des legumineuses (158 echantillons), cereales (24), oleagineux (16), legumes (13), fines herbes et epices (28), arbres et buissons a fruits (2), graminees (5) et legumineuses fourrageres (29). Au moins 70 % du materiel genetique collecte est constitue par des varietes locales endemiques, 18 % collecte a l’etat sauvage et 11 % represente probablement des cultivars crees au 20e siecle. Les varietes locales endemiques de Phaseolus vulgaris L. et P. coccineus L. representent plus de 52 % du materiel vegetal collecte. Comparativement aux observations de missions anterieures dans la region et dans les pays voisins, la diversite des especes cultivees est faible et les varietes endemiques de cereales et de legumes vivaces pourraient ne plus exister. Les perspectives pour la conservation de la diversite sur les sites des exploitations ne sont pas tres prometteuses, et la conservation ex situ dans des banques de genes semble actuellement etre la facon la plus efficace de preserver les varietes locales endemiques de la region" @default.
