- W2789596987 abstract "A decrease in water regulations and a decrease in the budget for water management makes it difficult to maintain current water standards. These proposed cuts will increase the chance of a water emergency occurring sooner rather than later. We are already seeing unwanted and undesirable side effects of the reduction in water quality regulation; children testing positive for lead in Flint, Michigan from contaminated lead pipes; dental problems in West Virginia due to unsafe levels of metals in the water; and bacterial, fungal, and viral outbreaks in municipalities all over the country due to contaminated water supplies. To avoid water emergencies that arise from the decline in water quality, the need of the hour is for local and state governments to take action now. At the same time, there is need for changes at the individual level, such as consumers reducing the amount of contaminated waste dumped into waterways and preparing for water crises. At the firm level, there is a need to prepare for water crises situations by identifying the needs of the business, and ensuring preparations are made to deal with a long-term water outage. Knowledge Management Systems can play a key role in this endeavor by helping to identify the risks, assessing the situation, enabling the development of a plan, and assisting in plan implementation and simulations thereof to ensure that individuals and firms are well prepared for potential disasters related to water." @default.
