- W2790834723 abstract "Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia and currently affects 1.5 million people in Germany. Alzheimer is incurable because the origin and processes of the pathogenesis have not been explored sufficiently. Before first symptoms are noticeable, a pathological process in the central nervous system takes place. Currently, the detection of Aβ42, t-tau, and p-tau proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid, together with tests that categorize the severity of cognitive impairment and imaging techniques such as positron emission tomography, is used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease. The biomarker research tries, in addition to the hallmarks that are associated with the formation of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary bundles in the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease, to find new biomarkers that are based on the changes in the metabolism, immune system, and transcriptome. The goal is to diagnose the disease already in its early stage and to discover new drug targets. The following additional biomarkers serve as biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease: BACE1, BIN1, α-synuclein, neurofilaments, sNRG-1, YKL-40, acylcarnitines, 24-hydroxycholesterol, 27-hydroxycholesterol, autoantibodies against Aβ42, autoantibodies to anti-CAPS, and certain microRNA types. The biomarker research tries to identify biomarkers especially from the blood, because a blood collection is less invasive than a lumbar puncture and thus more comfortable for the patient." @default.
