- W2790921504 abstract "We survey the most prominent methods for analysing biological networks that use network motifs and graphlets . These small substructures of large biological networks were used as building blocks of networks to understand their function and involvement in disease and aging. Also, graphlets were used to perform network alignments, which analogous to sequence alignments, aim to uncover common regions over different molecular networks to aid biological understanding and transfer annotation. They were also used to understand protein structure, the functioning of brain networks and to track the dynamics of networks and nodes in them. However, molecular network data are of different types, including protein-protein interactions, co-expression, transcriptional regulation, metabolism etc. All these data complement each other and analysing any individual network is focusing only on one layer of biological information in isolation from others, so it will give only partial insight into biology. Hence, further significant advances will come by mining all molecular network data jointly, and by marrying graphlet-based methods with methods for data fusion, since the entire biological information will only be unveiled by holistic analyses of all available data." @default.
