Heavy discharge of nanoparticles (NPs) may negatively influence the functioning of the ecosystem and its organisms. Plants are the most important components of the ecosystem and they also face toxicity caused by contamination of NPs in the soil. Thus it is necessary to understand the interactions of NPs with plants, essential base components of all ecosystems. NPs can affect plants on the basis of their composition, concentration, size, and species. NPs can be taken up by plant roots and transported to shoots through vascular systems, or small-sized NPs may directly enter plants through the leaf. At higher concentration, NPs generate toxicity in plants through reactive oxygen species generation. Thus in this chapter we summarize the current knowledge of the effects of NPs on plants by discussing the different omics tools, i.e., genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics." @default.
