- W2795107560 abstract "Behavioral interventions that can slow the progress of age-related cognitive declines have attracted much attention in recent decades. With the advancement of technology, virtual devices, such as smart phones and virtual reality devices, have become promising and accessible intervention tools for older adults. In this chapter, we review recent intervention studies that use virtual tools to assess cognitive enhancements in older adults, both healthy and mild cognitive impairments (MCIs) patients. We conclude that cognitive interventions with virtual tools can improve episodic memory and executive functions in both healthy aging and MCI. Results from physical interventions using virtual tools were mixed, although interventions that added virtual tools to physical exercise yielded greater gains to executive functions compared to interventions that used physical exercise only. We suggest more randomized controlled trials in future to investigate both the benefits to everyday life skills and the long-term cognitive benefits from interventions using virtual tools." @default.
