- W2796647599 abstract "Abstract Metal Matrix Composites consist of a matrix (base metal) and reinforcement, which may be a non-metal, ceramics, etc. 2014 Aluminium alloy is the base metal having properties of light weight and high hardness. The reinforcement is Al2O3 (Alumina) which is characterized by high strength. Alumina is initially coated with Nickel to increase its wettability. Al (2014) with 5%, 10% and 15% nickel coated Alumina is fabricated by primary processing i.e stir casting. Stir Cast samples show variation in properties and thus there is a need to refine the properties through secondary processing. Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) is a proven secondary processing method for refinement of properties and thus Stir Cast samples are subjected to ECAP. The Stir Cast samples and the samples subjected to ECAP are compared for Hardness and Microstructure. The results reveal that the Microstructure of the sample gets refined. Refinement of Grain Size improves the mechanical properties and thus there is an increase in hardness value of Stir Cast samples after they are subjected to ECAP." @default.
