- W2800776404 abstract "This chapter explores engagement as a philosophical and ethical concept by highlighting its various meanings and values. Approaching engagement from a philosophical and ethical point of view allows us to fully understand the role and place of the concept in society. The chapter begins by highlighting how engagement is currently understood in communication management. It outlines the purpose of engagement in communication before moving on to ethical and moral questions around its establishment and potential risks. If we consider engagement as a state of mind and emotion, then we must also consider that engagement involves various emotional attachments, passions, and dedication. The question then arises what the ethical and moral implications are of such involvement and whether organizations need it in the first instance. The chapter concludes by saying that engagement does not, and should not, only serve the organization's interests. Language and rhetoric have a significant impact on both eliciting and engaging emotions." @default.
