- W2801116181 abstract "Abstract The actuation stage of a robot designed for rehabilitation purposes plays a critical role in defining the characteristics of its interaction with the patient. This chapter presents the different options for actuating and controlling a rehabilitation device, considering the complex flow of information between the user and the robot during a rehabilitation task and proposing a range of tools to address both high- and low-level control strategies. Motors used in rehabilitation robotics are classified in pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric actuators, highlighting the advantages and drawbacks of each category. We then focus on and describe impedance and admittance control as means of decoding human intention and/or modulating the assistive forces delivered by the robot. The chapter then proposes a set of mathematical tools for model-based compensation of nonlinear phenomena in the robot's transmission, such as backlash and friction and ends with a reflection on the implications of the design choices on the implementation of an effective control strategy." @default.
