- W2801753314 abstract "Abstract Enzymes are today fundamental tools in several industrial productions, including those of human and animal nutrition. Among the available enzymes, phytases, taking into account their efficacy, are excellent examples of a fully successful enzyme, allowing progress in human and animal feeding as well as in reducing the negative environmental impact of intensive animal husbandry. Chitinases are most probably the only enzymes that share simultaneously positive (e.g., waste management) and negative effects (they are involved as allergens in the latex–fruit syndrome). Biomass will have an important place as an alternative raw material. Potential applications of biomass hydrolysis by lignocellulolytic enzymes are food, feed, textiles, fuel, chemical industries, paper and pulp industries, waste management, medical/pharmaceutical industries, protoplast production, food biotechnology, genetic engineering, and pollution treatment. Many hyperthermophilic microorganisms act on carbohydrates for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to reducing sugars. The demand for bioactives, new natural compounds, has intensified the development of plant-derived compounds. Biotransformation of polyphenols for food application using enzymes may be an effective solution. Beta-links of cellulose are not hydrolyzed by endogenous enzymes, with the known exception of termites. Direct-fed cellulases are not enhancers of pig and poultry performance, while in combination with other beta-glucanases they are considered to have positive effects. Cellulases can be used to improve silage production for cattle feeding and as a pretreatment of feed for monogastrics. Laccases appear as a basis for strong progress in practical enzymology taking into account their role in the deconstruction of lignin." @default.
