- W2804581049 abstract "Over recent decades, the literature on trade and factor mobility has shown an increasing interest on the relationship between migration and tourism. In this regard, while earlier studies mainly look at this relation for visiting friends and relatives trips (VFR) (Williams and Hall, 2002), recent researches show that the connection between tourism and migration goes well beyond the VFR channel (Cf., inter al ., Seetaram, 2012a; Massidda and Piras, 2014). Among these studies, the demand side perspective collects the main attention, whereas the tourism supply dimension is almost entirely overlooked. In this regard, however, the recent literature that focuses on the impact of immigration on the economy of receiving countries suggests very interesting developments also for tourism studies (Ottaviano and Peri, 2012, 2013). The main issue is that, taking fully into account the skill complementarities between workers, immigrants can be an opportunity for firms to improve their economic performance. Among the countries that are potentially interested to investigate the tourism-migration nexus, Italy represents an interesting case to study. The aim of this contribution is to provide a survey of the main empirical findings regarding this Country. Preliminarily, a brief overview of international literature outlines the issues under attention." @default.
