- W2806119136 abstract "Abstract Oxidative stress, defined as the imbalance between formation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) and their elimination, has been implicated in the development and progression of numerous diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Rapidly increasing the incidence of T2DM along with its complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, and cardiomyopathy has become a motivation for many researchers to develop effective therapeutic and preventive strategies with the use of antioxidants from natural sources that might counteract deleterious effects of these serious metabolic disorders. Although many natural compounds have been proven to be successful in attenuating oxidative stress under diabetic conditions both in vitro and in vivo, curcumin (CUR) is believed to be one of the most promising molecules in the therapeutic strategy of T2DM and its complications. In this chapter, we discuss the beneficial effects of CUR on T2DM and its complications, focusing on the specific molecular mechanisms underlying its antidiabetic action." @default.
