- W2807185989 abstract "Aims & Objectives: To investigate the 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25(OH)D) and vitamin D binding protein (VBDP) levels in critically ill children admitted to pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and their significance in clinical outcomes. Methods 295 children with critically ill admitted to PICU of The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from February 1, 2015 to July 30, 2016 were enrolled as subjects, and 44 healthy controls were recruited. Serum 25(OH)D and VDBP levels were measured at the 1st and 7th day of PICU, then collected clinical datas for statistical analysis. Results (1)The levels of 25(OH)D and VDBP were significantly (P<0.05) lower in criticaly ill children than healthy controls. (2) During the 25(OH)D sufficiency, insufficiency, deficiency groups: the level of VDBP, 28-day mortality, rate of organ failure and centilation were not statistically significant, but the duration of PICU stay, PRISM III scores were significantly longer and higher (P<0.05) in 25(OH)D insufficiency or dificiency group. (3) Compare to the 7th day, the levels of 25(OH)D and VDBP were lower (P<0.05) when patients admited to PICU for the 1st day. (4) the death patients showed lower (P<0.05) 25(OH)D status and higher PRISM III score than those who survival, but not the VDBP level. Conclusions (1)The study results demonstrate a high prevalence of 25(OH)D and VDBP insufficient and deficiency among critical ill children. (2)Patients with 25(OH)D insufficiency and deficiency show a poorer prognosis than those who 25(OH)D sufficiency. (3) The change of 25(OH)D status is not completely consistent with the VDBP." @default.
