Her research is focused on pruritus. She also has a strong interest in photodermatology.Search for more papers by this author & Stefan BeissertStefan Beissert is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. He has a strong interest in photodermatology, especially in photocarcinogenesis. Over the last few years his research group has contributed to our understanding of the role of UV-induced regulatory T cells during skin tumor development and the molecular mechanisms that modulate the skin immune system.Search for more papers by this authorPublished Online:14 Mar 2013https://doi.org/10.2217/ebo.12.102AboutSectionsView ArticleView Full TextPDF/EPUB ToolsAdd to favoritesDownload CitationsTrack Citations ShareShare onFacebookTwitterLinkedInReddit View chapterAbstract: Phototherapy plays an important role in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. The most frequently applied settings are narrowband UVB and UVA. Although, randomized, prospective and controlled studies are mostly pending, photoimmunology and molecular biology studies have shown that phototherapy targets inflammatory cells and changes cytokine production. In addition, phototherapy has an antimicrobial effect within atopic skin. References1 Darsow U , Wollenberg A , Simon D et al.
