- W2808705114 abstract "View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT) Unless you read the fine print beside the logo of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada (JOGC) on the cover page of the journal, you may not be aware of the changes. As of January 2017, we consider JOGC to be “The official voice of women's health care in Canada.” We revised the words “reproductive health care” to “women's health care.” Indeed, JOGC encompasses a wide variety of conditions related to women's health through every stage of life, from puberty to postmenopausal years. These include pubertal disorders, contraception, sexuality, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, pregnancy-related conditions, gynaecologic surgery, gynaecologic oncology, menopause, quality improvement, and many others. We publish advances in diagnosis and treatment, innovative technology, and investigations for improvement of patient care. In making this change, we are well aware that women's health is not confined to the reproductive system, and we make no claim to be experts in women's cardiovascular health or lung disorders; rather, we feel we should march under a broader banner because so much of a woman's obstetrical, gynaecologic, sexual, and reproductive health is determined by those other broader social and health factors. Stress, obesity, food security, substance use, and access to high quality health care—the list goes on, and so should our attention. Similarly, we need to recognize how reproductive health affects health overall—cardiac disease, osteoporosis, mental health, etc. We hope you will agree that the new tagline enables us to provide the bigger context of women's health and encourages you to submit articles that address the many facets. A more obvious change in JOGC is the inclusion of a picture of the article's first author. Instead of just a name, a picture provides the face of the author who wrote the article. As of January 2018, JOGC's cover page includes an image from a related article in that particular issue. It certainly gives more colour to the front page. Compared to previous years, the number of manuscripts submitted has increased by 40%. As expected, over a half of the submissions are from Canadian authors. Others are from different countries and continents, including the United States, Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia. JOGC has become more international. Our acceptance rate for research papers is over 50%, suggesting that over a half of them are good. Instead of qualitative research, our preference is good, quantitative research. We receive numerous submissions for “Image of the Month” and “Case Reports.” The acceptance rate for these submissions is 10%. We would accept technically high-quality images that are out of the ordinary—an arresting image that may be unusual, but instructive and, of course, respectful. Case reports that provide new information to the literature and might help another reader faced with a similar case in the future will be considered. We encourage authors to submit a good systematic review on any aspects of women's health and not just a basic review. High-quality reviews are highly valued by students and researchers alike. Reviews can be obtained from books, but good systematic reviews are more valuable. For a systematic review of RCTs or of a therapeutic intervention, we would like to see PRISMA guidelines (http://www.prisma-statement.org/). In any review, the author should place the body of work reviewed into context by including an assessment of risks of bias, an assessment of the weaknesses in the existing literature, and identification of areas needing future research. A well-executed meta-analysis is always welcome. One of the most important features of each issue of JOGC is the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG). The SOGC curates over 200 current CPGs, with 12 to 17 new guidelines issued annually and each guideline reviewed and updated as necessary every 5 years. In addition, members have access to the full archive of outdated guidelines. The CPGs are under the Guideline and Management Oversight Committee of the Society. The SOGC will turn 75 next year and is proud of the JOGC. As our official journal, JOGC has full editorial independence. It is a peer-reviewed, monthly journal that publishes research and systematic reviews related to women's health. Our turnover is rapid—the average time from submission to decision is less than 4 weeks thanks to the JOGC reviewers. Their expertise ensures the articles are scientifically sound and relevant to our readers. JOGC is dedicated to improving women's health care throughout their lifespan, and our hundreds of thousands of downloads annually tell us that our readers find the journal helpful. We encourage you to become part of our JOGC community by contributing cases, images, or articles; serving as a reviewer; or communicating with us through letters to the editor." @default.
