A significant portion of the empirical work has used sports data for testing hypothesized relationships. While there exist significant advantages associated with using sports data, there are a number of disadvantages as well. This symposium brings together four papers that utilize sports data to examine how the management of human capital resources influences team and firm level outcomes. Presenters seek to contribute to both the scholarship on strategic human capital as well as the dialogue regarding the benefits and challenges associated with using sports data in this stream of research.
