- W2886856906 abstract "The present study included cadaveric dissection with clinical study andhistological study. The results of the study are based on the routine dissectionmethods, radiological methods including doppler study. The branching patternand the variation of the radial artery in the present study has contributed to ourknowledge regarding the relationship, course and the variation of the branchingpattern which is of considerable practical importance in the conduct ofreparative surgery in the forearm and hand. The arterial variations of the upperlimb have been implicated in different clinical situations. In the present study variations regarding the level of origin and thebranches of the radial artery, their contribution to superficial palmar arch anddeep palmar arch are encountered. Careful scrutiny of the anti cubital areashould be made preceeding simple veni puncture, there is a possibility ofaccidental intra arterial injections may lead to gangrene of fingers, hand andforearms (fig – 60, 61).The superficial position of the arteries make them vulnerable to traumaand also make them more accessible to cannulation if needed such as for arteriovenous fistula in chronic renal failure, diabetes mellitus for dialysis purpose. The superficial radial artery has been encountered during elevation ofthe radial forearm flap. The existence of the superficial radial artery impliesthe absence of the normal radial pulse at the wrist level. The absence of the ulnar artery was responsible for hand ischaemia afterradial artery grafting for coronary bypass. Traditionally blocks in the heart aretreated through angioplasty performed through the artery of the groin whichsometimes result in complications like prolonged bed rest, bleeding, bloodclots, damaged artery and so on.Now in recent practices, cardio thoracic surgeons have introduced“Radial Artery Access” by which a pinhole access through the wrist as a daycare procedure. Through a tiny puncture catheters and stents are guided throughthe artery to the blocks in the heart. No need for incision, stitches, big scars orlong recovery. So the present study of “Radial artery and its branching pattern andvariations” will be more useful to the clinicians especially vascular surgeonsand plastic surgeons." @default.
