- W2887907393 abstract "INTRODUCTION:Traditional system of medicine is one of the centuries old practice and longservingcompanion to humankind in the fight against disease and in leading a healthy life.Indigenous people have been using the unique approach of their traditional system ofmedicine for centuries and among the most renowned are the Chinese, Indian, Africansystems of medicine. Traditional medicine refers to any ancient and culturally basedhealthcare practice differing from scientific medicine and is largely transmitted orally bycommunities of different cultures.[1] The World Health Organization (WHO) observes thatit is difficult to assign one definition to the broad range of characteristics and elements oftraditional medicine, but that a working definition is essential. It thus concludes that thetraditional medicines ‘‘[include] diverse health practices, approaches, knowledge andbeliefs incorporating plant, animal and mineral based medicines, spiritual therapies, manual techniques and exercises applied singularly or in combination to maintain wellbeing,as well as to treat, diagnose or prevent illness. AIM:The aim of Novel Drug Delivery System is to provide a therapeutic amountof drug to the appropriate site in the body to accomplish promptly and thenmaintain the desired drug concentration. The drug- delivery system should deliverdrug at a rate control by the necessarily of the body over a specified term of treatment. 2. To prepare and evaluate Transdermal Patch of Aqueous extract ofAzadirachta indica A. juss using different polymers OBJECTIVE: 1. To convert the herbal extract into a novel dosage form2. To provide a direct entry of aqueous extract into the systemic circulation to givesustained action3. To develop a novel topical formulation of aqueous extract of neem leaves for theeffective treatment of Skin infections SUMMARY: The various formulation parameters, Drug-Polymer ratios and permeation enhancerswere optimized to get thin, transparent, smooth, stable and high permeable transdermal patches. The FTIR graphs of drug, excipients and formulations showed that there is no extrapeak (or) broadening of peaks were observed and thus it indicates that there is no incompatibilitybetween drug and excipients. From the optimization, best 2 formulations P2 & S5 were selected based on physicochemical evaluation and in vitro drug diffusion study0.3ml of glycerin was added as plasticizer to produce a flexible patch without havingmajor influence on their diffusion property. If the amount exceeds, the film loses its flexibilityand become stiff. The plasticizer diffuses through the patch and softens the polymer particles. Thissoftening promotes latex coalescence and patch formation. All the six batches were evaluated for Percentage Moisture uptake, PercentageMoisture content, Thickness, Folding Endurance, Percentage Drug content, Percent Elongation,Tensile strength and Adhesive strength. The formulations P2 & S5 showed maximum % Moisture uptake, Moisture content,Thickness, folding endurance, % Drug content, Percent elongation, Tensile strengthNo significant difference in drug content was observed between the patches amongthe six formulations. This indicates the homogenous dispensing of drug during the patchpreparation. CONCLUSION: The ex vivo studies results showed 61.01% of drug diffusion at the end of 8 h. Itconcluded the controlled diffusion property of through the skin. The stability studies results showed that there is no significant change from its initial naturetill the period of three months at 40˚C ±2˚C/75 5% RH.The present work has achieved the objectives of formulation of transdermal patch ofAqueous extract of Azadirachta indica by using different polymers. The diffusion kineticsconfirms that the formulation followed zero order, non-fickian diffusion model." @default.
