- W2888883011 abstract "It is with immense sadness that the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (JCEHP) acknowledges the passing of Professor Scott Reeves on May 4, 2018. The sudden death of Professor Reeves sent a profound shockwave of loss throughout the fields of health professions education, health services research, and beyond. Professor Reeves was known throughout the world and respected in each of the many facets of his personal and professional life. From his role as Professor in Interprofessional Research at Kingston University to his role as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Interprofessional Care and even his role as a Consulting Editor on our own Editorial Board, Professor Reeves was esteemed and admired, both as a colleague and as a friend.FIGURE 1.: Dr. Scott Reeves with permission from the Reeves familyDr. Reeves began his illustrious academic career at the University of North London, where he studied applied social science, and at London Guildhall University, where he received an MSc in social research methods. He then went on to become a research assistant at City University of London and obtained his PhD soon after.1 Professor Reeves then traveled across the Atlantic to North America where he spent time in Canada at the University of Toronto and in the United States at the University of California in San Francisco. This part of his career saw his development of research collaborations in a multitude of countries including those as far as Australia, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil, Sweden, Italy, Germany, and Taiwan, to name a few. During this period, Professor Reeves was a major factor in my own successful transition from Australia into the North American academic environment. He was instrumental in guiding me through my partnership with the University of Toronto to further continuing professional development research in North America, initially by engaging with interprofessionalism and knowledge translation, and in later years, quality improvement and patient safety. He was first and foremost my mentor, then my colleague and finally, my closest friend. In 2013, Professor Reeves returned to the United Kingdom and began his role at the University of Kingston and St. George's as a Professor in Interprofessional Research. Professor Reeves began his tenure as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Interprofessional Care in 2010 where his expertise was immeasurable in helping the journal develop and grow into a leading publication. His experience and knowledge in both the interprofessional care field and the editorial process made him invaluable as a consulting member of JCEHP's Editorial Board which he joined in 2017. Professor Reeves played an integral part in developing the new mission and scope of JCEHP and deeply influenced the new direction of the journal. We are deeply grateful to him for the extraordinary example he set as an Editor-in-Chief and for his contributions to helping JCEHP progress. We are all profoundly grieved by the loss of Professor Reeves. His contributions and achievements will continue to impact all who knew him and will help shape future generations of researchers and academics. Our thoughts are with his wife, three sons, and family. Professor Scott Reeves' legacy will endure in the health professions education field and in the hearts, minds, and works of his friends and colleagues.FIGURE 2.: Dr. Scott Reeves at Kingston University commencement, with permission from Kingston University" @default.
