- W2890164675 abstract "Based on nano-tracer based planar laser scattering (NPLS) and background oriented schlieren (BOS) based wavefront sensing (BOS-WS), the fine structures and aero-optical effects of Mach 3.4 flow over the backward facing step with or without vortex generators (VGs) control were investigated experimentally. The structures were revealed in the instantaneous and time-averaged flow images with high spatial–temporal resolution. The shape, size and angular orientation of the large-scale structures is characterized by two-point spatial correlations method. The BOS results displayed the aero-optical effects distorted by the flow field with or without VGs control. It is concluded that the recirculation region in the case with VGs control is smaller based on the comparison of the optical path difference (OPD) distributions using BOS-WS. The OPD will be larger downstream the reattachment shockwave than in the case without control. The root-mean-square value of OPD of the observation field in the case without control is 0.7317 λ, while with VGs control is 0.5388 λ, where λ is the incident light wavelength." @default.
