- W2890277869 abstract "To the Editor, We would like to thank Huang and colleagues for their contribution to the discussion on an important topic. In a previous study [1], we measured the sagittal parameters of those who received thoracolumbar long instrumented fusion preoperatively and postoperatively and found that pelvic incidence remained a constant value following the operation. None of the patients in our previous study [1] had symptoms in the sacroiliac, hip, or knee joints, and neither did the individuals in our current study who were included in the asymptomatic (free of back pain) group [2]. In the current study, we also noted a difference between the females in different age groups in terms of their mean values of pelvic incidence [2]. But it is not suitable to explain this result as the change of the sagittal parameters through aging based on two reasons: (1) Our cross-sectional study was not a cohort study, so we should not assume that the younger (41 to 60-year-old) individuals will look in 20 years the way the 61 to 80-year-old individuals appeared in terms of sagittal alignment at the time of our report. (2) These three groups were raised in different environments, which may greatly influence the development of spinal sagittal alignment. While it might be ideal to perform a multicenter longitudinal study, following asymptomatic individuals over a span of 20 or more years is expensive and difficult to do. However, future researchers can, perhaps through a literature review, compare the changes found in adults who are 41 to 60-years-old and who have spine-related diseases to those who are 61 to 80-years-old and who have spine related diseases in not only pelvic incidence, but also in terms of concomitant disease of the hip, knee, and sacroiliac joints." @default.
