- W28905833 abstract "This investigation identified the service needs of caregivers in order to inform the process of allocating new Title III-E funding for caregivers established in the 2000 reauthorization of the Older Americans Act. Emphasis was placed on identifying consistent themes in existing information, and confirming these themes through a small local survey of clergy and key informants. The following recommendations for utilization of new Title III-E caregiver support funding are based on these themes: (1) Include the widest possible array of services in the bid process without specifically allocating actual units as this will enable caregivers to get the services they need in the appropriate quantities; (2) Encourage bidders to increase their flexibility in terms of when and where they deliver their services; (3) Consider using the model in which the family is the client; (4) Train case managers regarding how to identify and appropriately respond to diversity among caregivers including different needs of caregivers in the different sub-populations studied for this project, as well as the information about stages and variations in need throughout those stages and the way other factors influence the experience of those stages; and (5) Make sure to accompany implementation of new caregiver service levels with an effective outreach and social marketing effort." @default.
