- W2890846807 abstract "A novel promising Mycobacterium Species Bio-based platform chemicals and polymers have drawn great attention nowadays because of their environmental and economic impacts, compared to those obtained from the fossil. These can be produced from renewable resources, and further transformed to value-added products by enzymes and microorganisms. For example, Mycobacterium sp. MS1601 has the capability to selectively oxidize polyols to corresponding hydroxyl-carboxylic acids, building blocks for manufacturing plastics and resins. Meanwhile, chemical oxidations of polyols are difficult to achieve the high selective transformation and product yield, and environmentally hazardous in comparison with biological processes. Therefore, the biological approaches specifically attract interests much; however, it is very important to identify the detail characteristics of the microorganisms before using for industrial purpose. In this study, Mycobacterium sp. MS1601 was classified at the species level, and characterized by different specific tests.Based on the results, the bacterium was classified as a fast growing Mycobacterium sp., a relatively safe and nonpathogenic organism requiring biosafety level-I for laboratory use. And DNA based analysis ensured as a new mycobacterial species. Different growth conditions such as optimum temperature, pH and carbon sources, and it´s characteristics were also studied. Finally, one responsible enzyme for the oxidation of polyol was identified and overproduced. The study can specifically open the door to biotechnologically use this microorganism for large scale production and biotransformation of bio-based products.
