- W2890853989 abstract "Com o objetivo de investigar a concentracao de mercurio foram amostradas diferentes categorias troficas de peixes (onivora - Pterodoras granulosus [Siluriformes: Doradidae], detritivora - Prochilodus lineatus [Characiformes: Prochilodontidae] e herbivora - Schizodon borelli [Characiformes: Anastomidae]) de importância comercial, na planicie de inundacao do alto rio Parana, Brasil. As coletas foram realizadas no periodo de cheia, em tres rios da planicie: Baia, Ivinhema e Parana. Para determinar as concentracoes de mercurio, amostras de musculos dos especimes capturados passaram por um processo de digestao, e foram analisadas em espectrofotometro de absorcao atomica. Nenhuma das especies estudadas ultrapassou o valor limite dado pela Agencia Nacional de Vigilância Sanitaria. Nao foram identificadas diferencas na concentracao de mercurio entre as categorias troficas e entre os locais estudados. Os pulsos de inundacao podem estar funcionando como agente homogeneizador, distribuindo por toda a planicie o mercurio lancado pontualmente no ambiente. O papel dos pulsos de inundacao deve ser avaliado em estudos futuros, bem como tecnicas complementares devem utilizadas, por exemplo, para tracar a bioacumulacao de mercurio nos niveis troficos superiores. MERCURY CONCENTRATION FROM DIFFERENT TROPHIC CATEGORIES OF NEOTROPICAL FISH. In order to investigate the concentration of mercury and the bioaccumulation in fishes, we sampled three commercial species belonging to different trophic categories (omnivorous - Pterodoras granulosus [Siluriformes: Doradidae], detritivorous - Prochilodus lineatus [Characiformes: Prochilodontidae] and herbivorous - Schizodon borellii [Characiformes: Anastomidae]) in the Upper Parana River floodplain, Brazil. Samples were performed in the flood period, in three rivers of the floodplain: Baia, Ivinhema and Parana. For the determination of the concentration of mercury, muscles samples of the captured specimens were subjected to a process of digestion and then were analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. None of the studied species exceeded the recommended by the National Health Surveillance Agency amount of mercury in their muscles. There were no differences in mercury concentration between trophic categories and between the studied locations. Flood pulses may be working as a homogenizer agent, diffusing the punctually released mercury throughout the floodplain. Flood pulses role should be evaluated in future works, as well as complementary techniques should be used, for example, to trace mercury bioaccumulation in superior trophic levels." @default.
